I think of my work as a physical byproduct of how I understand myself and the people around me. Painting portraits allows me to devote all of my focus to a specific subject, meditating on who they are, what they mean to me.
Recently, I’ve been working with light sources and the way minimal light can break down the human form into compelling shapes against an unlit environment. Not only is chiaroscuro compositionally satisfying, but I enjoy the drama and mystery it brings out of the subject.
