Julie Hadley

After earning a BFA in painting from Cornell, I came to live in New York. I craved the studio atmosphere I had experienced in college and wanted to continue making art. I found ceramics and haven't looked back.

As co-owner of La Mano Pottery and Mud Matters, I love being able to provide community studio spaces where both beginners and experienced potters can thrive. I am also forever a student, continually learning more about the process of working with clay, glazing, and firing.

I am inspired by the tiny details around me: the lines and curves of iron gates in front of brownstones, the trees and flowers in the parks. I strive for simplicity in my work — a less is more aesthetic that is evocative of forms found in nature — always with a focus on making functional pieces.
